Cardamom is a plant from South-South East Asia, with Guatemala being the largest producer in the world. The preferred variety is Elettaria cardamomum, which originates from the Malabar Coast in Kerala, India, and was brought to Guatemala, where cardamom has a milder flavor and excellent quality.
