Specifically, the excerpts from the school textbook from the 3rd book of Thucydides' History are structured into teaching units. Each unit includes:
- The text and its translation
- Initiation - Thematic core - Objectives of the unit
- Structure and organization of speech
- Grammatical phenomena (recognition of forms, principal parts, cognates, etymological elements, temporal and modal replacements)
- Syntactic analysis of the ancient text
- Interpretative - aesthetic approach to speech
- Meaningful rendition of the text
- Ideological elements
- Supplementary questions (interpretative, grammatical, syntactic, and lexical) to consolidate new knowledge
- Evaluation criteria that align with the new spirit of the exams. These include questions from the Topics Bank.
Following are the answers to the questions, exercises, and discussion topics from the schoolbook.
The appendix provides answers to the supplementary questions and evaluation criteria.

The oligarchs then retreated to the city, but their opponent was also unstoppable there. Thus, their defense did not hold, and confusion and panic, disorganization, and disintegration prevailed among their ranks. At that moment, they were seized by fear that the democrats, with an attack, would seize the port of Alcino and especially the navy yard, which was their last refuge, and would leave them with no hope of salvation. For this reason, in a state of madness, they set fire to the houses and the "multistory buildings" surrounding the marketplace, in an attempt to delay their opponents and buy time to regroup and defend themselves. The burning of the marketplace shows where the instinct of self-preservation and despair can lead in a civil war, especially a war. This action by the oligarchs was selfish, as they did not consider the property of other citizens for their own salvation. It was also irrational because the entire city could have been destroyed if the wind had blown the fire and favored its spread in that direction.
