Description

DAHLIA BULB LILAC - LILAC TIME (ORNAMENTAL)

Category: Ornamental Dahlia with large flowers (double flowers 15-20cm with broad petals)

Height: 90-120cm - Spacing between bulbs: 50cm

  • Light: Dahlias love the sun, so choose a location with at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
  • Soil: Dahlias prefer well-drained, loamy soil. They do not tolerate standing water conditions, so if your soil is heavy, amend it with compost or peat to improve drainage.
  • Planting Time: Dahlias are usually planted in spring, after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed up.
  • Planting Depth: Dahlia tubers should be planted at a depth of about 10-15 cm, with the "eye" facing upwards.
  • Watering: Dahlias enjoy consistent moisture. Water them deeply several times a week, more often if your area is experiencing drought. Avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of fungal diseases.
  • Fertilizing: Dahlias respond well to low-nitrogen fertilizers, such as 5-10-10 or 10-20-20. Too much nitrogen can lead to lush, leafy growth and fewer blooms.
  • Deadheading: Regularly removing spent flowers (deadheading) will keep your dahlias producing more blooms.
  • Overwintering: In cooler climates (zones 7 and below), you will need to store the tubers indoors during the winter.
  • Pests and Diseases: Dahlias are generally quite resistant to diseases and pests, but there are some common issues to watch for, such as aphids, botrytis, powdery mildew, slugs and snails, mites, and thrips.
