Sing while holding this sweet companion in your hands, made to resonate with art and in a wonderful manner.”

“And Hermes, having said these words, offered him the lyre, and Phoebus Apollo took it. When the glorious son of Leto, the royal archer Apollo, supporting the lyre with his left hand, tested the sound with the plectrum, the lyre resonated wonderfully, and the God sang.” Homeric Hymns — Hymn II: To Hermes.

If there is an art in which the human spirit emerges as a creator, it is Music. With his breath or with his movement, the musician stimulates the hidden forces of nature and reveals its universal reason. This progress, free among all, is nevertheless based on the laws of Numbers.

This high mission of music has been recognized since the depths of antiquity. Among the Chinese, the rules of this art had a sacred character. The Egyptians and Greeks dedicated the musical rhythms to the planetary principles, and Plato glorified the music of the spheres. Pythagoras and Aristoxenus precisely defined the intervals of sounds according to the lengths of vibrating bodies and the principles of Arithmetic, and later, Kepler related musical intervals to the speeds of the planets.

Britt does not confine himself to summarizing the traditional bond between Music and celestial movements, but reaches the primordial functions that calculate this correspondence and goes even further: he elevates himself to the ontological principles of these functions, deriving Intervals, Musical scales, Chords, and Modes from the Law of Creation of Hoene Wronski.

Already in his previous works, Britt had reached this high conception of Music that truly blossoms in the “Lyre of Apollo.” He is perhaps the first to base Music on that polarity, which lies at the source of creation, and on teleology, and honors its completion instead of subordinating it to either Mathematics, Psychology, or Cosmology.
