The Caucasian fir or Nordmann fir is a slow-growing coniferous tree shaped like a pyramid. It has rich, dense foliage with flat and narrow needles that have a bright blue upper surface and silvery-green underside, with a prominent central vein. Its bark is smooth and gray.
A very resilient species for mountainous areas at altitude. It prefers deep, acidic, moist, and well-drained soils. Abies nordmanniana, commonly known as the Caucasian fir or Nordmann fir, is native to the mountains of the Caucasus.
This is a dense, pyramidal conifer that typically grows to 50' in height and 20' in width in cultivation, but can reach up to 200' in height in its native habitat. The trees are usually branched at the ground. The branches are densely covered with flattened, glossy dark green needles. The needles have two white stripes underneath.
