Sulcorebutia rauschii f. violacidermis
The Sulcorebutia rauschii f. violacidermis is a mini cactus that tends not to grow much but develops in clusters with many heads. Its body has a dark color that, when exposed to sunlight, enhances its vibrant purple hue. Each head consists of a perfectly hemispherical body with slightly marked diamond-like ribs, from which tiny black and bristle-like spines emerge, completely flat against the tubercles.
The color of the body, along with its flowering, creates a fantastic combined shade of purple. The flowers are typically funnel-shaped and have a very intense magenta color. It requires full sunlight but is better placed in the shade during the hottest hours.
It requires mild temperatures and should be protected when winter temperatures drop below 0°C. During the summer months, it requires moderate watering on a weekly basis, while in winter, it is essential to completely stop watering, as the plant is very sensitive to rot. A well-draining and mineral-rich soil is the optimal solution, preferably with a layer of sand at the bottom of the pot to prevent rot. Frequent fertilization is not necessary; just dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
