It does not exist as a form in nature and is considered a descendant of wild N. palmata (note that N. cf. zhangjiajiensis is now a synonym) from Southeast Asia (Northern Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Southern China).

The Blue Pearl is a product of selective breeding by Mr. Ulf Gottschalk (Germany) that first appeared in the hobby around 2007.
