Description & Specifications

Kayode Ojo's sculptural installations, made from ready-made objects, provoke reflections on order, consumption, and the fragility of luxury.

“There is a sense of urgency in these fleeting clashes between fashion and art. It is the subtle exchange between culture and commerce that does it best.” —W magazine

Filled with sequins, chromed finishes, and transparent and reflective surfaces, Ojo's elegant sculptures navigate between the related visual languages of subtle minimalism and glamorous luxury, showcasing the transformative power of the material object and its ability to transport the owner through dimensions of time, space, and social status.

Seeking his materials on fast fashion websites and online shopping malls, the artist incorporates the familiar rhythms of searching, scrolling, purchasing, and receiving into his versatile artistic practice. Ojo works instinctively to transform these objects into poetic yet twisted arrangements that make visible the phenomenon of social aspirations, revealing its dual nature as a facilitator of inclusion and instability.

The texts in this collection, including a curator's note by Ebony L. Haynes and an essay by Serubiri Moses, explore Ojo's influences and examine the consumerism that is both denounced and central to his artistic practice.
