Pentreath is known as one of the leading designers of new traditional buildings and country homes in the world. Celebrating the twentieth anniversary of his London-based company, Pentreath showcases his authentically playful classic approach. This is the first of Pentreath's publications to present his work in its entirety – from his personal residences in Dorset, London, and Scotland, which have earned him international fame, to many old and new houses he has designed and some larger projects that make his practice unique in the realm of traditional design.

Although the results range from the colorful and romantic interpretations of the English country house to traditional grandeur, there are underlying ideas that inform the breadth of his work – a sense of scale, proportion, technique, detail, sustainability, and appropriateness – which hold universal significance today. Pentreath is both the author and the photographer of the book, which examines around thirty cases, large and small, including many previously unpublished works. The designs reflect an understanding of materials, texture, classical and folk detail, color, richness, and simplicity – as evidenced in the luxurious and honest interiors, imposing country residences, and practically organized urban designs.

While steeped in an educated classicism, Pentreath's work is celebrated by both young and old around the world, as evidenced by its coverage in significant media.
