In its closed form, it resembles a folded umbrella. By pulling a cord at the top, the mechanism "locks" and the trap opens automatically, stretching the net into a hexagonal shape (due to its 6 sides). Each of the 6 sides of the trap has an entrance. These entrances have a "funnel" design (narrowing inward).


Operation

  • The user places bait (e.g., bread, fish food, a piece of fish) in a small zippered pouch usually located in the center, inside the trap.
  • They submerge the open trap in the water (from the shore, a pier, or a boat).
  • Fish or other aquatic creatures, attracted by the bait, easily enter through the 6 entrances.
  • Once inside, the "funnel" design makes it extremely difficult for them to find the exit and escape.
  • After some time, the fisherman simply lifts the trap out of the water to collect the catch. It is very popular due to its ease of transport (as it folds) and its effectiveness.
