Chess Set Capablanca Staunton with additional pieces Archbishop and Chancellor.

The Capablanca chess is a variation of the game invented in the 1920s by the world chess champion, José Raúl Capablanca. It is played on a 10×8 or 10×10 board.

Capablanca believed that in a few decades all matches between great players would end in a draw, which led him to create a more complex version of the game. To differentiate the game, he changed the board layout and introduced two new pieces:

  • Archbishop: moves like a bishop and knight.
  • Chancellor: moves like a rook and knight.

These new pieces allow for new strategies and possibilities, completely transforming the game of chess.

The name Capablanca refers to one of the greatest chess players in history. Owning this set is a tribute to this chess legend, adding historical value to the set.
