What is the Scraperboard technique?

Essdee Fine Quality Scraperboard is coated with porcelain, providing a smooth surface which is then overprinted with black ink. A sharp scraping tool carves lines from the surface's ink to reveal the white underneath. It offers an artistic medium that is clear and precise. Used by illustrators and professional artists worldwide. Its extremely smooth surface allows you to work with very fine details. It can also be extensively used as an ideal airbrushing medium. The carving is as easy as drawing with a pencil. The board provides excellent contrast with dense black and clean white. The shavings can then be colored and reworked to offer many interesting possibilities. Artists appreciate it for the glow it can give to the most common subjects, ensuring perfect reproduction on even the poorest papers.
