Historical Information and Plant Morphology: Nutmeg is an exotic fruit derived from the nutmeg tree, which thrives in tropical regions such as Indonesia and the Caribbean. The tree produces two main products: the hard seed (nutmeg) and the outer fruit tissue known as mace. It has traditionally been used both in cooking and medicine.

  • Intestinal antiseptic: It has natural antibacterial and antiseptic properties.
  • Brain stimulation: Contains myristicin, which has been studied for its neuroprotective properties.
  • Improvement of the circulatory system: Helps enhance blood flow and reduce inflammation.

Usage: 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg is steeped in 1 glass of boiling water in a covered container. It is left for 5-10 minutes and (optionally) strained before use.

Origin: Egypt

Storage: In a dark and cool place (5°C – 15°C).
