A metal coil is placed near the inner surface of the fitting to improve heat transfer between the pipe and the fitting in order to reduce welding time. Polyethylene pipes and fittings can be welded using the electrofusion method or the butt fusion method. In both cases, the welding process must follow a defined procedure, taking into account basic concepts regarding the compatibility of different materials. Since PE80 and PE100 pipes are fully compatible, pipes of different materials can be welded together, provided they have the same proportional dimension (SDR) and thus the same wall thickness.
