The Macchi MC.200 Saeta was an Italian fighter aircraft with low wings, entirely made of metal, featuring a retractable landing gear system during flight. Power was provided by a single Fiat A.74 engine with 850 horsepower. The prototype maiden flight took place in 1937. Serial production continued from 1938 to 1942, ending with the production of approximately 1,150 aircraft of this type.
- Armament: 4 Breda-SAFAT machine guns of 12.7 mm and 7.7 mm
- Bomb load: Up to 300 kg (in the MC.200CB version)
After the end of the war in Ethiopia in 1936, the Italian Royal Air Force leadership decided to introduce new aircraft types into service. Aeronautica Macchi won the competition with their design of the MC.200 aircraft, and new planes entered service in late 1939.
