History of this substance
These sticks are made in India, in the state of Karnataka, using the method known as Dry masala bhattis. The dry, sticky paste is made from white sandalwood powder and rubber tree powder, and is hand-rolled on a bamboo stick, followed by natural drying in warm, dry air.
Solidarity action for the indigenous forests in Karnataka
The humanitarian organization Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra (VGKK), founded in 1981 by Dr. H. Sudarshan, is dedicated to the development of the community of 20,000 people in their natural forest in the Karnataka region. These sticks and other products from our partner in Bangalore are made by this community, known as the Soliga tribal community.
