Discover and identify insects with this small, practical pocket guide.
- SIMPLE: quick orientation using a color code
- RELIABLE: three steps to the correct species
- EASY TO UNDERSTAND: important features described directly on the images
Insects are the most diverse group of animals on Earth, with approximately 1 million species. Often, spiders, mites, crustaceans, and other small invertebrates are considered insects, but this is incorrect. In this small guide, insects are classified into 7 groups, each assigned a color code. Each group, or color, represents a category of insects with a similar body structure.
The number and shape of wings also play an important role in identification. The grouping does not strictly follow zoological systematics but offers an accessible and reliable method for identifying insects.
