  • I like dissonant melodies. However, I would like bass vocals like Amon Amarth (Johan Hegg in the studio at his deepest) (I hate the harmonic Amon Amarth vocals but I like their deeper studio vocals). Attila Csihar has now improved, whereas on De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas he was very off-key (beyond the desired sick voice, he really was off-key because in later albums he improved). Black metal nowadays is almost always melancholic/harmonic. Mayhem compose horror/fear/dissonance, meaning with different musical intervals. Most black metallers/blacksters nowadays want melancholy/harmony (with a few off-key notes, but not real consistent dissonance) but they don't use the word harmony because they pretend to be dissonant. Mayhem express the authenticity of the 1990s. People love them but most not because they recognize the value of dissonance. On the contrary, half of death metallers/deathsters recognize the value of dissonance (when they even want the solos to remind of atonal dissonance or at least it's a dissonant composition with non-classical scales, combinations and modulations [see Nile]).
