Opuntia subulata (now officially classified as Austrocylindropuntia subulata), also known as the "Eve's Needle," is an impressive, fast-growing cactus native to the Andes of South America. It has cylindrical, green stems covered with long, fleshy "leaves" that resemble needles, which often fall off as the plant matures.
It produces red or orange flowers during spring and summer. It requires direct sunlight. If kept indoors, place it near a south-facing window. Very drought-resistant. Water only when the soil is completely dry. During winter, watering should be almost completely stopped.
