The later works of Johannes Brahms for clarinet are ranked among the most majestic ever composed. In the final years of his life, Brahms seemed to have grown tired of composing, but fortunately, in 1891, he met Richard Mühlfeld, the clarinet soloist of the Meiningen Court Orchestra, whose performance, full of sonic beauty, inspired him to create new compositions. The Trio Op. 114, with its melancholic autumnal character, is beloved by all clarinetists and is available in a revised edition from the Henle publishing house. Brahms's manuscript for Opus 114 is kept in Munich, at the headquarters of G. Henle Verlag. The score is based on the new complete edition of Brahms's works, ensuring the greatest accuracy and the latest scholarly research. For this urtext edition, pianist Klaus Schild added valuable fingering suggestions.
