Description

Description

The correspondence between Arnold and Beatrice Zwerg and Ruth Klingner from 1936-1962 provides valuable insights into the poet Arnold Zwerg's daily literary work. In addition to statements related to current political events, it includes private and personal matters concerning the relationship between Arnold and especially Beatrice Zwerg and Ruth Klingner, the poet's long-time secretary.

The letters spanning nearly three decades between Arnold Zwerg and Ruth Klingner also touch on the history of his works, publishing and financial difficulties, and often mention political events. The letters presented here for the first time constitute an interesting element of research into Zwerg.

Among other things, they offer a focused look at an aspect that was significant for European Jewry during these years—the re-migration to Europe free from Hitler's savagery. The correspondence shows that after his return from exile in Palestine, Zwerg also headed to Prague as his first European destination due to Ruth Klingner.
