Cut madder root (Rubia tinctorum), dried and cut into small pieces for easy use. Traditionally used in herbal dyeing for producing shades of red, as well as in folklore and botanical applications. Natural plant-based product, without additives.
Dyeing Easter eggs:
- Grind the madder root in a mortar.
- Boil it in water for 10 minutes.
- Let it sit for 2-3 hours or overnight.
- Strain.
- Add 1/2 a wine glass of vinegar.
- Place the eggs inside and if necessary, add water just enough to cover them.
- Boil for ~15 minutes.
Dosage: 70 g madder root for 15 eggs.
Madder root has medicinal properties. Its root contains mainly glycosides (galliosin, asperuloside), citric acid and other acids, tannins and pectins, as well as sugar, protein, and a small amount of fatty oil. The glycosides mentioned above are reported to have anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic effects on the urinary system and when excreted give a rosy-red tint to the urine.
