For their price, the curtains are excellent. Just be careful with the length because for me they were just enough.

In general, I wouldn't characterize it as blackout, but for its price, I wouldn't expect it to be. It is a thick curtain that creates very good shading in the space. I bought it because my kitchen is very hot in the summer and there is no other means of shading, and it really does make a difference in the room.
