Traditional Greek flute, wooden, made from cane. It has six holes and a tonality of F. The main features are as follows:

• Easy blowing
• Soft and warm sound
• The tiamboli or suravli is a flute-type instrument with an open lower end.
• The upper end is cut obliquely and closed with a stopper that leaves only a thin slit.
• Common in the islands of the Aegean and Crete, but also in some cases in Macedonia and Thrace.
• Known names: pithkiavli in Cyprus, sfyrochampyolo in Crete.
• Usually made from cane, more rarely from wood or metal.
• Played solo or accompanied by a leather percussion instrument, such as the toumbi (Naxos and Crete).
