Epiphyllum anguliger, also known as the "fishbone cactus," is a Mexican epiphytic cactus with flat, deeply lobed stems in an impressive zigzag pattern. It is ideal for hanging pots and hangs beautifully.
Its flowers are white, nocturnal, and have a vanilla and citrus scent. It is a botanical work of art with a unique character.
Care instructions:
- Lighting: Requires bright, indirect light — essential for flowering. Ideally placed near an east or southeast window. Avoid intense direct sunlight that can burn the stems.
- Temperature: Ideal temperature 18-27°C; tolerates 10-12°C in winter, a rest period is recommended to encourage flowering.
- Watering: Moderate — water when the top 3-4 cm of the substrate is dry. Every 7-10 days in summer, every 14-21 days in winter.
- Humidity: Ideally 50-70% — more resilient than other tropical plants, but occasional misting is beneficial.
- Substrate: Very well-draining — cactus or orchid substrate + perlite (20%).
- Fertilization: Every 3-4 weeks during the growing season with cactus fertilizers, diluted by half. Stop in winter.
- Propagation: By stem cuttings — cut a segment, let it callus for 1-2 days, then root in a moist substrate. Spring-summer is the ideal period.
