Description & Specifications

Hoya wibergiae (recently renamed verticillata) is a rare plant sought after by every plant lover. This indoor plant features fragrant flowers and an elegant appearance. It is an easy choice for beginner growers and adds a natural, stylish touch to every bright corner of the home.

Care Instructions

  • Prefers bright indirect light — ideally a protected east or southeast window.
  • The substrate should be very well aerated: 50% fine pine bark, 30% perlite, 15% sphagnum moss, and 5% activated charcoal.
  • Water only when the substrate is almost completely dry — the thin leaves of this variety are more sensitive to excessive moisture than to lack of moisture.
  • In summer, water every 7-10 days; in winter, reduce to 14-21 days and keep the temperature above 16°C.
  • Ideal atmospheric humidity is 50-70%.
  • Fertilize with diluted fertilizer (half strength) once a month in spring and summer.
  • Repot rarely, every 3 years, preferring slightly larger pots.
  • Propagation is a simple process with stem cuttings having 2-3 nodes, rooted in moist sphagnum or water.

Hoya wibergiae is a plant that rewards careful care and patience, although it may intimidate beginners. The growth rate is slow and the first flowering may take 1-2 years. However, once you understand its pace, it becomes a loyal plant that blooms year after year, offering you its sweet fragrance every summer evening.

To maximize flowering, give it a cooler rest period (15-18°C) for 4-6 weeks in winter, followed by resuming watering and fertilizing as temperatures rise. This simulation of the dry period in its natural environment triggers bud development and can double the number of flowers per season. Appreciate its tropical origin during your care — and it will reward you with unforgettable blooms.
