The Oncidium Sharry Baby is the famous "chocolate orchid": long stems bearing dozens of small burgundy flowers with a white lip and a warm chocolate and vanilla scent, more intense in the morning. It is one of the friendliest and most fragrant orchids for the home, blooming once or twice a year and forgiving of delayed watering.

Care Instructions

• Light: bright indirect light, 15,000–25,000 lux. Ideally from an east or south-facing window with a thin curtain; west-facing if the afternoon sun is filtered.
• Temperature: 18–28 °C during the day, 15–20 °C at night.
• Watering: water when the substrate has dried by two-thirds, about every 5–7 days in summer and every 10–14 days in winter.
• Humidity: 40–60%. A tray with wet sand or grouping of plants can be used.
• Substrate: fine to medium pine bark (6–12 mm) with 10–20% perlite or charcoal. Depending on growth, repot every two years, in spring, right after flowering.
• Fertilization: orchid fertilizer at a quarter concentration, every other watering, from March to October.
• Propagation: by division during repotting, with at least three pseudobulbs per piece.
