Description & Specifications

Brassidium Orchid — a cross between Brassia (spider orchid) and Oncidium, featuring small star-shaped flowers in yellow-brown color with a sweet-spicy scent. A single flowering stem can produce 10–25 flowers lasting 4–6 weeks. It is more resilient than its parent species.

Care Instructions

  • Brassidium prefers bright, indirect light — an east-facing blind or a spot 1–2 meters away from a south window filtered by a thin fabric is ideal. Direct summer sun can burn the long, folded leaves.
  • Optimal temperature: 15–25°C during the day, 12–18°C at night. A nighttime temperature drop of 5–8°C strongly promotes flowering recurrence.
  • Water once a week in summer, every 10 days in winter, using filtered or rainwater (hard tap water is tolerated but may reduce vitality over time).
  • Allow the substrate to dry slightly between waterings — Brassidium does not tolerate water stagnation around the pseudobulbs.
  • Optimal humidity: 50–70%.
  • Use a well-aerated orchid substrate based on pine bark, with added sphagnum moss and perlite for maximum aeration.
  • Fertilize weekly during active growth (spring-summer) with orchid fertilizers diluted to half strength. In winter and during flowering, use a fertilizer rich in phosphorus and potassium once a month.

Specifications

  • Pot diameter: 9 cm
  • Total height (including pot): 40 cm
  • Flowering stage: With or without flowers

Note: The orchid may be shipped blooming, with buds, or without flowers, depending on the season and its development stage at the time of dispatch. Photos are for illustration purposes only.
