Fritillaria imperialis 'Rubra' is a classic and imposing variety of the "Crown Imperial". The indication 18/20 specifies the circumference of the bulb in centimeters, corresponding to size Large (L). Bulbs of this size offer exceptionally strong, vigorous growth and abundant flowering. It bears large hanging bells in deep burnt orange to dark red color, forming an impressive circle beneath a "tuft" of green leaves resembling a pineapple.

The height usually reaches up to 90-100 centimeters. It blooms in mid to late spring (April - May) for about 2-3 weeks.

It is planted in autumn (September to December), before the ground freezes, in locations with full sunlight or light partial shade, at a depth of about 15-20 centimeters (3 times the height of the bulb) and spaced 20-30 centimeters apart. In shady places, the stems weaken and do not flower properly.

Rich, fertile soil with perfect drainage is essential. Excess moisture during the summer dormancy period will rot the bulb.

Critical Planting Tip: Because the bulb has a natural cavity in its center where water can collect and cause rot, plant it slightly tilted to the side so it does not retain moisture.

The bulbs emit a distinctive scent that naturally repels rodents (mice), moles, and deer.
