Description

NAS of the company Synology. It is of type Tower and is mainly intended for home use. NAS devices are devices that host hard drives, greatly assisting in secure data storage and are directly connected to the Router. They create a personal cloud and make files accessible from any device you have without worrying about the storage space of each device. They emphasize on creating backups, which is done automatically through settings, and on entertainment as they can reproduce content on any device that has access to them and from anywhere.

This model consists of the Marvell Armada 370 88F6707 processor. with 0.256GB RAM DDR3. It incorporates additional ports such as USB to connect devices such as printers, USB sticks, etc., and HDMI for direct connection to a monitor or TV. It does not have built-in hard drives, which means you will need to add your own. It supports up to 2 disk units HDD, SSD.

It supports Raid 0, 1, Basic, JBOD capability. RAID 0 is used only for speed purposes as the speed of all disks is added, and not for backup. If even one disk is destroyed, all data is lost. RAID 1 is the replication of one disk to another. Whatever is written on one disk is automatically written on the other. Also, if one disk is destroyed, the system will continue to function normally, but you will need to add a new disk to start the process of copying the healthy disk to the new one. JBOD refers to Apple systems. If 2 or more disks are used, the formatted space will be added. If one disk fails, it is possible to recover the remaining data from the other disks.

I was looking for a NAS to backup my cloud accounts (Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.), my collection of mp3s and movies, and some important files.

It has been truly the most boring purchase I have ever made!
I bought it, set it up, and never dealt with it again.

The purchase was made three months ago, I installed the disks, connected it, accessed the DSM (via Firefox, Chrome, etc.), set up the cloud sync, download station, audio station, and video station, and configured everything within an hour. Since then, I have forgotten it exists.

    It works flawlessly.
The DSM 6.0 (Synology's operating system for DiskStation) is very user-friendly and doesn't cause any concerns.
The Package Center offers applications that cover all needs and allow for managing the DS216se via smartphones and tablets (Android and Apple). There are also third-party applications, but you need to add the repository through the settings for them to appear in the Package Center.
It has excellent support from Synology through the DSM Help Center, where you simply submit a request and receive a response within 24 hours. Remote access can also be used for troubleshooting, after enabling it.

The only downside is the hardware, and it's truly the only reason I gave it 4 stars.
CPU - Single core Marvell Armada
    RAM - 256MB
    1 x LAN port
    2 x USB 2.0
For the minimal use I give it (personally), it fully meets my needs and doesn't bother me at all. I knew I was buying the completely "entry level" model with two disks (for RAID Mirroring) to keep backups, and I don't regret it at all. On the contrary, I am satisfied with my purchase. However, in the future, I will have to upgrade to a more powerful (Intel CPU + 6GB RAM) and more expensive model

Excellent software on very weak hardware. You will need to enable minimal applications to maintain performance at respectable levels. The DSM platform has a multitude of applications and with some third-party manufacturers (e.g. Plex, Sync, DVBLink), it soars. However, don't even think about it on this model. The memory is small and the processor extremely weak. It is essentially the same machine that Synology presented two years ago (DS 214se). Reliability is top-notch, the quality of the platform (DSM) is unique. However, I still believe it is overpriced. If there is the financial ability, go for a more powerful model.
