The Hittites and the empire they established in Asia Minor during the mid-Bronze Age are the subject of this book, which focuses on their relation to the Aegean.
Particular emphasis is placed on the presence and activities of the Greeks in Anatolia, Pontus, and Syria-Palestine during the second millennium before our era. The political as well as direct military involvement of the Mycenaeans in the disputes of Asia Minor is revealed based on Hittite sources and other evidence.
The cultural interaction between the Aegean region and the core of Asia Minor is shown to be only slightly behind that of coastal Anatolia. In religion, writing, architecture, art, and elsewhere, similarities and analogies are identified as a result of mutual influences between the Hittites and Aegeans.
The aim of the book is to provide as objective a picture as possible of these interactions which developed between the Greek and Hittite cultures during the Bronze Age.
