It can sting if you have an open eye, yes.
It does its job, however.
I had blepharitis, my doctor recommended it as a treatment. The very next day I felt relief from the stinging in my eyelids due to the inflammation.

It stings a little because it works like soap. And the gel stings if not properly cleaned. Eyes must be closed. The scent is very subtle.

It was recommended to me by the ophthalmologist when I had a stye in my eye at some point! I used it for cleaning at first and then did the treatment. The truth is that it made the area under the eyelid drier and I felt it stinging many times when I used it! Its scent was awful!

I use it for cleaning my baby's eyelids because it was recommended to me by the ophthalmologist, but I don't see any results, so I don't think I will buy it again. And for the fourteen wipes that the package contains, I consider it expensive.
