Ride your scooter safely

Ride your scooter safely

Electric scooters are a popular choice as they do not require a driver's license and are a practical, economical, and environmentally friendly way of getting around on the streets.

The new legislation that came into effect in March 2021, states that:

  • Vehicles up to 6 km/h are allowed to circulate in areas where pedestrians are present, such as sidewalks and parks.

  • Vehicles with a speed of up to 25 km/h are considered bicycles and can circulate where bicycles are allowed.

  • None of the above categories are allowed to circulate on roads with a speed limit above 50 km/h.

Some tips for your safety and that of those around you

  • Helmet: It will protect you and reduce the risk of serious head injuries in the event of an accident or fall. Set the right example for other riders too and get your own helmet.

  • Respect for the Highway Code: It is essential to be familiar with the Highway Code before deciding to ride on the road, regardless of the speed and type of vehicle.

  • Safe distances: Proper distances are key to avoiding sudden braking. By maintaining sufficient distance from other riders, you have enough time to react to any unpredictable movement.

  • Single rider: Avoid having a second person on the scooter, as it is illegal and considered dangerous. The design and structure of electric scooters are intended to carry only one person. The presence of a second person worsens the balance and control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of accidents.

  • Lights: Light signals usually include headlights at the front and rear of the scooter, as well as reflectors for increased visibility. By activating these light signals during low-light hours, we help other riders notice us and maintain safe distances. Make your presence on the road "noticeable".
