Have you found signs of rodents in your home, storage area, or field and don’t know which product is right for your case? Choosing the right rodenticide is important!

Read below everything you need to know to get rid of them quickly, effectively, and —above all— safely.

1. Choose the right bait form

The form of the bait determines where and how you should use it:

• Paste

  • When to choose it: It is the most attractive option for indoor spaces, basements, and damp areas. It contains fatty substances that rodents love.

  • Advantage: It is not easily affected by moisture and is consumed immediately.

• Pellets / Cubes

  • When to choose them: Ideal for outdoor areas, gardens, drains, or storage spaces.

  • Advantage: They have high resistance to rain, heat, and moisture thanks to the wax they contain. They have a hole in the middle so they can be easily secured inside bait stations.

• Wheat / Grain Bait

  • When to choose them: Suitable for dry indoor spaces and agricultural use where rodents are accustomed to feeding on cereals.

  • Warning: Accept that they may be scattered by rodents, so avoid them if you have pets.

2. Identify the “enemy”: Mouse or Rat?

Not all rodents have the same habits:

• Small mice: They are curious and eat a little from many different spots. You need many small bait points.

• Rats: They are suspicious of anything new (neophobia). They need larger amounts of bait in fixed spots and 2-3 days of patience before approaching it.

3. Safety

Rule No1: Never place loose rodenticide on the ground if there are children, dogs, cats, or livestock in the area!

• Use Secure Bait Stations: These are plastic boxes that lock with a special key. They allow entry only to rodents, protect the product from weather conditions, and prevent pets from coming into contact with the bait.

• Bittering agent: Check whether the product contains Denatonium Benzoate. It is a substance with such a bitter taste that it prevents children and pets from swallowing it, while rodents do not notice it.

4. How does the product work?

Modern rodenticides are 2nd generation anticoagulants.

• Why their action is delayed (3-5 days): If the mouse died immediately, the rest of the group would realize the danger and would not touch the bait. The delayed action ensures that all rodents will eat it.

• Mummification: Most products cause internal dehydration. This forces the rodent to seek water outdoors (leaving the house) and at the same time prevents strong odors after its death.

5. Quick Check-list before your purchase

1. Have you measured the size of your space? Estimate the amount you will need (e.g. 100g-200g for an apartment, 1kg+ for storage areas/farms).

2. Did you get bait stations? Add at least 2-4 stations to your cart depending on the square meters.

3. Do you have disposable gloves? Never touch baits with bare hands. Rodents have a keen sense of smell and if they smell human scent, they will not approach the product.
