Since the 1980s, the social sciences have 'discovered' space and its consequences in the development process. 'Space matters,' argues Dorren Massey. In fact, some very well-known theorists of economics, such as Paul Krugman, have become strong advocates of economic geography and have since distanced themselves from the 'dimensionless wonderland' of neoclassical economics.
Until then, economic theory ignored space, assuming a one-dimensional world where economic activities took place 'on the head of a pin' because introducing the concept of space creates problems in the analysis of general and partial economic equilibrium. Moreover, space had also been neglected by economic policy, which prioritized issues of national economy and politics (unemployment, unequal income distribution, etc.).
This book seeks to bring the reader into contact with a wide range of interpretations and philosophical approaches to the science of Geography, to open 'windows' to many fields of knowledge, without aspiring to present the broad spectrum and numerous aspects of it. For each of these topics, the reader can subsequently refer to the frequent multiple interpretations offered by the international literature, a selected section of which is mentioned at the end of each chapter.
The use of examples allows for a better understanding of the processes analyzed. The new, enriched edition of the book includes many new examples and data that facilitate the connection of the content with the Greek reality.
