    Agiorgitiko

    It can produce from rosé and light red wines with aromas of fresh red fruits (strawberry, cherry), to dense, aged wines with aromas of plum jam, spices, and chocolate. The tannins are usually velvety.

The Megas Oinos of the Skouras estate is a historic wine for the region of Nemea, as it was the first attempt to blend Agiorgitiko with Cabernet Sauvignon, inaugurating a category of wines that became known as "Super Nemeas." The color is deep and intense purple. The nose has depth, concentration, complexity, but also finesse. Aromas of ripe fruit such as blackberry and black raspberry along with spicy characters, smoke, and leather notes compose the nose. On the palate, it is silky yet robust with gentle tannins and balanced acidity, offering aromas of ripe fruits, clove, black pepper, and a touch of herbs. The finish is very long with immense complexity.

    One of my favorite wines. The Agiorgitiko alone is a bit "shallow", the Cabernet on the other hand is very heavy but the "blend" of 80% Agiorgitiko with 20% Cabernet is exceptional. The negative is of course the price which has almost doubled. At some point I will try the 20-year-old bottles I have in my possession and will inform if it can withstand such aging. The 4 stars are due to the price. Regardless of the price, it is a 5.
