Description & Specifications

The Anti-War Manifesto by Wolfgang Borchert was broadcast for the first time on the day of his death. It cannot be read as a simple poem or narrative, as it serves as his essential legacy and bequest to future generations, delivering to them a manifesto, an Anti-War Manifesto.

His call to "Say No!" evolved into one of the key slogans of the peace movement and was voiced – proclaimed by thousands of people who have fought and continue to fight for it even today. However, the poet does not settle for just the call to "Say No!". He becomes revealing, prophetic, and unapologetically harsh as he warns of what will happen if we do not follow the path of rejection – the rejection of war.

This poem was written shortly before his death. He had confessed to his close friends that sensing his end, he needed to leave behind as a legacy a simple, clear, comprehensible work that would address everyone. A text without circumlocutions, in which the fact of life and death is portrayed just as it is, simply, definitively, irrevocably.
