Salt Dough - Easter Edition
Salt dough is one of my favorite materials for endless hours of creation with little ones..
Since Easter is approaching, it’s a great opportunity to make handmade Easter decorations together, using ingredients we all have in our kitchen…
The ratio is three cups of flour, one cup of fine salt, and one cup of tap water (you may need a little more water, depending on the dough).
The ingredients you will use
- For the dough: Three cups of flour, one cup of fine salt, one cup of tap water
- Food coloring or tempera paints
- One basin, a rolling pin and a baking tray
How to make Easter decorations with salt dough
Salt dough is a bit like modeling clay, with the only difference being that you can make it with simple ingredients you already have in your kitchen.
Think of the satisfaction your little ones will feel once you finish your creations together…
- First, in a basin, add three cups of flour and one cup of salt, and mix lightly.
- Then, gradually add one cup of water, stirring constantly with your hand, until a firm dough forms. If needed, add a little more water.
- To make your creations smell nice, add vanilla powder to the dough.
- Divide the dough into smaller pieces and color them with food coloring.
- Using a rolling pin, roll out your small dough pieces into thin sheets and cut shapes with Easter cookie cutters.
- Alternatively, if your children are younger, shape small eggs with your hands and flatten them.
- In some creations, make a small hole at the top.
- Place your shapes on a baking tray and put it in the oven for about half an hour, until the dough hardens and the moisture is gone.
- If you didn’t color your creations with food coloring, you can now paint them with tempera paints.
- Thread Easter ribbons through any shapes you made a hole in, and hang them on flower pots, light fixtures, or branches in a vase.
- You can place the rest on a large Easter platter in the center of the table.
Every year I look forward to making Easter decorations with salt dough with my children…
After all, why shouldn’t we decorate our home for Easter too?
And especially with beautiful creations from our little rascals!
